Jaeger-Lecoultre Watches Win Again

  • Posted on November 30, 2009 at 9:55 am

jaeger-lecoultre-watchesCreated in 2009, the Master Grande Tradition Tourbillon à Quantième Perpétuel has just been awarded First Prize in the ‘High Complications’ category, as voted for by a panel of horological experts at the Munichtime ‘09 Exposition. In so doing, this fine watch continues a tradition of award winning Jaeger-Lecoultre watches.

Typical of the Jaeger-Lecoultre tradition, this exceptional model has a double-complication movement. The technical aspects of the automatic calibre, such as the titanium tourbillon carriage, the high-inertia and high-frequency balance, as well as the oscillating weight that has been mounted on ceramic ball-bearings, all work to enable the timepiece to achieve outstanding levels of performance.

The model illustrated to the left has an 18-carat pink gold case, but it is also available in platinum, and there is a limited series of 300 in 18-carat yellow gold. This watch is entirely decorated by hand, a testament to the mastery of rare crafts we have come to expect from La Grande Maison of Jaeger-Lecoultre.

Besides the awards in four different categories chosen by experts, there are also the awards voted for by the public. The results of the public vote will be announced at a gala event in Vienna at the beginning of December. It was this award, as voted for by the public, that Jaeger-Lecoultre watches won in 2009.

‘Collections Dior’, Watches for Women

  • Posted on November 30, 2009 at 9:50 am

dior-watchesChristian Dior watches has two collections of watches especially designed for women. The La D de Dior Collection, launched in 2003, for the woman, as the advertising says, ‘who decides to wear a man’s watch so that she is always thinking of him’. And the Dior Christal Collection, which launched in 2005 as a tribute to the company’s founder, Christian Dior.

In both of these collections of Dior watches sophisticated watch-making is as much a piece of haute couture as it is a luxury watch.

For the watches in the Dior Christal Collection (as shown to the left) the sapphire crystal is used as never before. Traditionally used only for watch crystals, in this collection the sapphire crystal is cut and encrusted by hand into bezels and straps in a marquetry fashion to create a visual effect that is re-enchanting watch-making.

Sporting the usual Dior palette (red, black, white and purple), these watches are available with a quartz, self-winding or hand-wound mechanical movement.

Watches in the La D de Dior Collection are inspired by 1970s style. There is its classical shape with precious stones, noble and eternal metals and lacquered finish that produces a style that mimics Dior’s fine jewellery. The panther motifs in sapphires or diamonds and black lacquer are added as a tribute to Mitza Bricard, Christian Dior’s muse.

These Dior watches are available in mini or maxi versions, with quartz or Zenith hand-wound mechanical movements.

Jewelry of the Week

green-garnet-ring

This week’s star is an exqusite 18Kt white gold ring capturing the beauty of a wave design with an array of pave set round green tsavorite garnets surrounding a row of white sparkling diamonds.

Green garnets?! Is there really such a thing? Indeed there is! In fact, several green varieties are known. A green garnet ring can be made from demantoid garnet or tsavorite garnet. With rich, vibrant color, a green garnet ring stands up very well to an emerald ring. Here are a few green garnet rings that could leave your friends green with envy. And this surely is one of them.

Donna Karan Sabre Shoulder Bag

Donna Karan Sabre Shoulder Bag

Help me out with this one, folks. The Donna Karan Sabre Shoulder Bag is reminding me a lot of Gucci  handbags and I can’t quite figure out why.

Is it the shape? Gucci tends to make a lot of big, chunky shoulder bags. Or maybe the color? I’m not a big fan of tan, but Gucci’s tans have always held a special place in my heart – I think they get the amount of orange undertone just right. This one doesn’t seem quite the same, but it’s reminiscent, I think. Maybe it’s the “rustic” accents? There’s no Gucci-signature bamboo, but the claw-like (or tooth-like?) closure still reminds me of the kinds of things they like to do. So are you seeing what I’m seeing, or have I looked at so many handbags that they’re all starting to blur together in my mind?

Fendi Rose Zucca Chef Bag

Fendi Rose Zucca Chef Bag

Is it just me, or does the Fendi Rose Zucca Chef Bag look like it really wishes it was born a Louis Vuitton instead?

When you’re dealing with a design element as obvious as graphic roses layered over logo canvas, it’s hard not to draw parallels between this and the Stephen Sprouse collection that garnered so much attention last season for Vuitton. I wonder if Fendi’s accessories designers would even be able to keep a straight face while they were claiming that this isn’t a ripoff.

And it’s not even a halfway attractive ripoff. The Vuitton bags were successful because not only did they feature the art of a widely respected pop artist, but they were also visually quite interesting. The roses were robust and colorful, and they overshadowed the traditional monogram on which they sat.

The Fendi handbags, on the other hand, is just kind of sad. The roses are boring and small, and they do nothing to spruce up the zucca print fabric that we’re all used to seeing. Find your own gimmick, Fendi – Vuitton’s already got this one on lock.

Coach will be most of fashion girls’ second “dsigner” bag. Many people talk about how a Coach was their “start” bag, or how Coach introduced them to the world of designer bags. This Coach Bonnie Small Framed Purse remind why so many female always keep Coach close to their hearts. It’s so many things in such an adorable package.

First of all, it has the practicality, functionality, and great leather that are the hallmarks of Coach handbags, not to mention the signature turnlock closure. Second of all, it’s accessible. It’s a great going out bag for the girl next door who wants to stay casual and not be bogged down by something with beading or sequins. The framed closure top adds a hint of glam- a throwback to the little pouches carried by partygoers in the 20’s, big enough for just the necessities: lipstick, compact mirror, and a bit of money. While this Coach bags still has that aura, the modernity in the fuchsia or the gold leather colors (I think the gold one is better. And the fuchsia one is so pinky.) ensure that it’ll be just as perfect carrying your cell phone and car keys. Practical can look good.

The design of this tote bag is simple and practical, and I like the calm Prussian blue color.

This Square Classic bag of Balenciaga’s 09 Spring collection is low-keyed and modest, compared with other eye-catching bags of Balenciaga bags . There is nothing especially dazzling about this tote bag, but it is the simplicity and practicality that attract me, and the tassels save it from being boring, a good try.

It’s kinda…kinda squama looking, like at one time the hearts falling down piece by piece, while at another time lots of hearts gathering around. Isn’t it interesting? Handles sit on either side of the main opening, and a zip pocket sits on the lining. The size is big, the price is beastly. But seriously, who can resist? Everybody loves heart, nobody hates Marc Jacobs. And this is one love story that’ll warm big hearts. Are enticement enough? If you miss it, you’re definitely a jerk. So go on, buy your heart out.

If you think it’s too girlie, you can choose the blue one. If you want something sweet, the flesh one is waiting there. All in all, anyone carried one of these, one word—hot, two words—so spicy, and three words—please kill me!!! The world would be a more loving place, what are you waitong for?!

Breguet Le Petit Trianon Watch And Jewelry Set

Breguet Le Petit Trianon Watch And Jewelry Set
By Adam Keith, Associate Timepiece Editor for ViaLuxe-Breguet, the famous Swiss watchmaking house synonymous with one of the greatest horologists of all time, has announced a splendid new family of watches and jewelry inspired by the Petit Trianon–the picturesque estate integral to the Palace of Versailles where Queen Marie Antoinette withdrew to find solace from the intrigues and pressures of court life.

The Breguet Petit Trianon collection is a delightful set composed of necklace, bracelet, ring, ear clips, and a watch–a bewitching mixture of jeweled extravagance and graceful beauty reflect the atmosphere and loveliness of the historic grounds which are its namesake.  On each of the creations, a breathtaking emerald-cut diamond takes center stage, joined to thematic elongated bows that glisten with round brilliants and large princess cut diamonds.

The Breguet  watches draws upon the design of Breguet’s acclaimed Reine de Naples collection: the elliptical white gold case presents a canvas of exacting diamond-setting, as does the pave-set diamond dial, where blued steel Breguet hands traverse an hour scale in mother of pearl.  Joined to the signature bowed strap attachments is an exceptionally elegant satin strap and a white gold deployant clasp.  Animating the hours and minutes is Breguet’s self-winding 586 caliber.  This artful mechanism is refined by hand according to the haute de gamme tradition, and features a central winding rotor in 22-karat gold.
